Minimalissimo

I love the timeless design of the REK coffee table by Rotterdam-based designer Reinier de Jong, who works on both architectural and product design. The table is a brother of the acclaimed REK bookcase.

By easily sliding out the inner parts, you create extra table surface for guests or just to create some extra storage space.

Wow. Well I could probably make this myself. Designer price tags are really ridiculous.
I don’t want to sound preachy and annoying, but has anyone heard of a little place called Haiti? Rwanda? Poverty in general? It’s absolutely shameful that this much money can fly around for somethingthat actually matters so little.

  2. Perfect for a single potted plant- and then all my other magazines, books, and papers on those hectic days. Beautifully crafted.

  3. Beautiful art and idea. Every art are always quite expensive, but if you want, you can try by yourself to create that kind of table.

Ah, but you didn’t. He/they did. And doing it well isn’t as trivial as you may think.

“Designer price tags are really ridiculous.”

Small-batch unusual products requiring effort to make aren’t cheap.

Methinks you’ve found your niche: identify/obtain minimalist designs, hire the poor in Haiti/Rwanda/wherever to make them cheap and yet earn far more than they would otherwise, and sell them to both make yourself a profit, improve their standard of living, and assuage your elitist guilt. (…wait, companies already do that, yet get bashed for “taking advantage of the poor”. Can’t win.)
