The Opposite House

Swire Hotels has found a niche in Beijing with its minimal boutique hotel, with the Opposite House Hotel. The super minimalist hotel, designed by Kengo Kurna & Associates, provides 99 guest rooms, with a home comfort palette of light wooden floors, glass, and fabric as room dividers. The aesthetics are carried perfectly throughout the lobby, bars and outdoor decks. With subtle suggestions of Chinese inspirations, the overall result is perfectly modern. There is a vivid contrast also between the restaurants, bars, pool and the rooms, where the purpose of each section is perfectly understood. Even the staff wears comfortable and chic uniforms that it’s hard to tell that they actually work there!

This has become a tourist attraction in itself in Beijing, even if you don’t stay here when visiting Beijing, it’s worth to try out the cocktails at the bar downstairs.

  1. I like this swiming pool… Elevations are not so elegant… Too colorfull.

  2. Yes I totally agree about the exterior choice. Actually don’t see how they link together in a way. The pool is definitely one of my favorite hotel pools, especially when seen from above with the lights that are not very clear in this shot.

  3. Here’s one more agreeing with you. Looks like they delegated the façade design to somebody else (with not a great taste). I’ve been living and working as architect in Shanghai for years, and the façade reminds me to a sadly common bad approach to design in China. Really poor and bad executed.
The rest yes, quite nice, as they usually do.
