SOLUS

German industrial design agency Botta Design are the creators of the lightweight SOLUS wristwatch. The elegant and unobtrusive design of SOLUS is reflected by combining functional clarity with simplicity.

Perhaps not as minimal in appearance as many other watches defined as such, but I feel SOLUS, which only weighs 28g, strikes the perfect balance of being easily readable whilst also having a lack of ornamental features. For instance, the watch only features one hand in order to focus on only what is absolutely necessary, which is the position of the hour hand.

Personal favourite is the solid black design. Refined, precise and beautiful.

  1. I like it a lot! They could probably loose the numbers… But the single hand concept is ingenious.

  2. I think just a minute hand would be more useful: i usually know roughly what the time is, i use my watch when i need to know more precisely.
    Looks cool though.

  3. The all metal version reminds me of the Issey Miyake TO watch. I do like the concept of the one hand but am not sure how it would be to live with day to day.

  4. Love the single hand concept!
I agree with Natalia that the numbers probably could have been removed. In the bottom right image they haven’t displayed the numbers.

  5. I prefer my PAM 00292

  6. I have the titanium version with black strap and I love it. The execution is really exceptionally refined and precise, and the watch weighs less than a strap. The titanium does not have the yellow tint they show on the photos. The photos are not accurate, the metal looks gray.

The only nitpick I have regarding the design is that while the hand has a phosphorous coating, nothing else on the face of the clock has. So it is effectively impossible to tell time in the dark… one can just tell that the watch is there :)
