BLOSSOM

industrial design

BEBOP design studio which is based in Seoul, Korea created a portable Bluetooth speaker with a charming title—BLOSSOM. Probably by the name, it is not hard to recognise where the main inspiration came from. The object was designed in the form of a beautifully blossomed flower that's been simplified into geometric shapes of a cone and a cylinder. The speaker is both aesthetic and functional. The audio which is produced from the bottom-up is projected in all directions by the cone shape, which allows putting all the constructional elements inside the shape.

BLOSSOM was created for the product brand LEXON. The design team gave a lot of attention to the visual look of the product so that it could reflect the style of LEXON. BLOSSOM’s iconic shape becomes a beautiful addition to an interior design space. The goal of this project was to find a balance between a clean iconic design and unique functionality.

The audio-dispersing cone can be nested into the main cylinder body for portability, while also serving as a protective shell for the delicate speaker cover. It gives a double function for the product and allows the customer to use it very easily. The cover itself is a flexible spandex material that joins the product's two main geometries together while giving the surreal illusion of the cone balancing itself at the smallest point.

BLOSSOM comes in five different colours, which allows each client to choose the one they desire. What surprises me is the functionality that is smartly hidden in the design of the object. The outside keeps it sharp, simple and minimal, while inside hides all the mechanisms and details. This is a great example of how everyday objects can make our lives better by using functionality and aesthetics.
