In 2003, Samsung Electronics challenged the Seoul National University, where Seongyong Lee was a student at that time.
Lee came up with the Circular Printer, and with it a totally new printing system. Rather than the traditional linear movement of the printer's print head, Lee's printer would use rotational movement. This would allow for a much more portable and space-saving design. How smart!
The Circular Printer went on to become one of 130 winners from the 2004 Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA). Unfortunately, it was never taken into production.
