Born from a curiosity to explore colour, Sonos and HAY have collaborated on the limited edition Speaker One. In a celebration of how tried and tested both music and colour positively affect one’s home and domestic life, this partnership is a welcome edition. Available in five colours—vivid red, forest green, pale yellow, baby pink, and light grey—each speaker interacts with smart devices to allow for sonic integration, while also aligning with HAY’s signature palette. In amongst this connection of colour to the home, the design and execution is minimal and quite restrained, in a very sophisticated way.

Both founded in 2002—HAY in Copenhagen and Sonos in California—there is a shared belief in making design (both technology-focussed and aesthetically) accessible to the masses. Through this continual commitment to reinvention and staying abreast changing trends and forecasting, their focus on integration into the home is clear. The Speaker One collection also allows for a sense of self-expression, which based on current market offerings, isn’t offered to this degree. Bringing together shared values, the HAY for Sonos Speaker One sees a considered, controlled, and well-executed design, making the user also reconsider the place of colour in a minimalist’s world.
