Studio Dessuant Bone’s Jurassic Light 117 is the culmination of Another Country’s invitation to design a bespoke industrial design object as part of their 5-Year Anniversary Exhibition, The Dorset Series. Held during London Design Festival 2015, the intent was for the designed pieces to reflect homage to the Dorset region. The resulting minimalistic Jurassic Light 117 is inspired by the Jurassic Coast’s Durdle Door. Another Country curated this collaboration as an extension of their dedication to designing inspired by archetype for a modern customer.
Made from Portland stone and brass, there is a sense of a primal narrative beneath the materiality and form, the stone itself carrying echoes of fossils past as a reminder of its origins. The cylindrical negative space created by this arch (Jurassic Coast’s Durdle Door) has been interpreted to create the simple shape that forms the light.
Studio Dessuant Bone is a multi-disciplinary design and direction firm based in Paris specialising in realising ideas through to creation. This beautiful, minimal and finely articulated lighting piece is testament to their trueness to concept. The connection is clear.
