MAX.TAN collections are always a pleasure to analyse. While their design approach is pretty stable—it’s all about maximising on minimalistic ideas and soft geometrical shapes—every season brings a new and exciting motif. The Autumn/Winter 2017/18 collection is titled Press and Stack and is all about achieving an effect of origami folds in cutlines, outlines and silhouettes. Geometric patterns fold naturally, while self-tying ribbons enhance the draping flow of the high-end fabrics.
While the skilful drapes show extraordinary voluminous shapes around the female body, references to masculine clothes and a rigid colour palette—dominated by jet black and navy blues—create an exquisite balance between eastern and western cultural influences. A subject immanent to the design philosophy of MAX.TAN. With this Autumn/Winter collection the design team arrives at a point where a MAX.TAN outfit can be easily identified without losing any of its stunning or surprising notions.
