What would Leonardo da Vinci create today? Graffiti on a subway wall? Design mobile phone apps? Paint chewing gum blobs on pavements? Gone are the days of traditional oil on canvas. Art has changed address. Meaning we need to know where and how to look for it.

City Wonders: Helsinki by Lorenzo Servi, alias SerraGlia, is a mini city guide series for discovering unexpected art. A book that isn’t your standard travel guide, it doesn’t inform about architecture, monuments, top attractions or any of the usual fare.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition “City Wonders: Helsinki” at The Finnish Museum of Photography (24.8 – 29.10.2017) by Other Editions, this issue collects the best samples of found objects, colours, shapes or “whatever is” found from the streets of Helsinki. Each image has a fictional story about its possible meaning or interpretation.

A map is also included, to pique that urban curiosity and send everyone out exploring for themselves.

The author Lorenzo Servi (b.1979) is an Italian-born architect, visual artist, and designer domiciled in Finland. He is constantly researching and analysing issues in everyday life and built environments. Servi has been a part of several group exhibitions in Finland and abroad, among others in the Finnish Museum of Architecture.
